Friday, 9 June 2017

Welcome to the traffic notice for the week of 9 - 15 June for the

Southern Corridor Improvements Project

Traffic notices provide a brief overview of likely traffic disruptions for the following week. Full closures are also advertised in the Weekend Herald. Traffic notices are complemented by monthly construction updates and quarterly newsletters.

ALREADY IN PLACE

  • Narrowed lanes and 80 km/h speed limit northbound on the motorway between the Papakura Interchange and Hill Road.
  • Narrowed lanes and 80 km/h speed limit southbound on the motorway between Orams Road and the Papakura Interchange.
  • Full closure of Orams Road Bridge to all traffic and pedestrians.
  • Narrowed lanes and 50 km/h speed limit both directions on Great South Road at Takanini Interchange, between the northbound off-ramp and the southbound on-ramp.

TRAFFIC NEXT WEEK

Northbound

  • Monday 12 June - Wednesday 14 June - Night closure of the full northbound motorway from the Takanini Interchange to Hill Road. This includes the northbound on-ramp at Takanini (Great South Road).

Local Road

  • Tuesday 13 June - Thursday 15 June - Night closure of one lane in each direction along Great South Road under the Takanini Interchange.

UPCOMING WORKS (dates may be subject to change)

  • Sunday 18 June - Night closure of the northbound off-ramp at the Takanini Interchange.
  • Sunday 18 June - Tuesday 20 June - Night closure of the full southbound motorway between the Takanini off-ramp to the Takanini on-ramp.

Night work on the motorway next week involves installation of bridge beams over Papakura Stream and piling works along Great South Road. If it rains or ground conditions are too wet, work will be postponed until the next available dry night.

To construct an additional fourth southbound lane from SH20 to Hill Road, the eastern span of Orams Road Bridge will be lengthened. Orams Road Bridge will be temporarily closed to all pedestrians and traffic while this work takes place from April 22 to October 2017.

Work during the night will allow our crews to operate equipment safely while adjacent to the existing traffic lanes. Work in the shoulder and median work zones will continue during the daytime next week, but this will not affect traffic movements.

Night closures are typically from 10pm at night to 5am in the morning. Detours will be in place to take motorists along local roads, leading back to the next motorway interchange. All detours will be clearly signposted, and maps of the typical routes can be found on our website at http://www.nzta.govt.nz/projects/southern-corridor-improvements/traffic-notices/.  Please allow extra time for your journey at night.

With the lanes narrowed, there is less time to react to other vehicles and it is important that motorists keep to the posted  50-80 km/h speed limit past our work areas. There will be ongoing truck and project vehicle movements accessing the shoulder and median work sites. Keeping both motorists and our team members safe as possible is imperative and we need everyone's help to do this.

As always, we will be doing our best to minimise effects of these works on the public as much as we can.

We thank you for your patience as we work to improve journey reliability and safety along the Southern Corridor.
