2016 Election of the BCA Council is now open and we call for nominations
The rules governing the election of the Council were changed in 2015. Councillors are now elected for a two year term. To ensure greater continuity on Council the Council retirements will be staggered. Five of the existing Council will retire by rotation in 2016 and will be eligible for re-election for a two year term. The remaining Councillors will retire by rotation in 2017 and also be eligible for re-election for a two year term. The President is already elected for a two year term that end at the Annual General Meeting in 2017.
The following five Councillors will retire this year and are eligible to be nominated for the five positions available:
Ewen McCammon
Craig Worth
Mike Bickley
Lyndon Leabourn
Bill Nimon
Included in this nomination notification are the -
1. Nomination Instructions; and
2. Nomination form for BCA Council.
You may photocopy nomination forms should you require additional forms.
Election Process Overview
Nominations for Council are now open. If there is someone you would like to nominate for Council, we encourage you to complete nomination forms as soon as possible.
Nominations close 12 noon on Thursday 25 August 2016.
Nominations not received at the BCA office by that time will not be accepted. If you intend to post a nomination, please consider the time it will take to arrive at the BCA office.
Alternatively you can fax the nomination to our office on +64 4 499 7353 or email info@busandcoach.co.nz with the subject line 'BCA Council Nomination'
Once all nominations have been received one the following outcomes will occur:
1. If the number of nominees is less than or equal to the five positions available on Council, those who have been nominated will be duly elected; or
2. If there are more nominees than the five positions available, the nominees will be asked to provide a brief profile to be distributed to members with voting papers. Voting papers, Nominee profiles, and voting instructions and information will then be sent members. Members will be allocated votes based on their declared fleet size in accordance with the BCA Rules. Votes may be split between candidates. Voting will open on Friday 26 August 2016.
Role of Council
The Council is responsible for determining the policy and management of the Association. It ensures that the BCA operates in the interests of all members and in accordance with the mission statement of the Association, which is:
- To foster a safe, efficient, sustainable and profitable road passenger transport industry to the mutual benefit of the New Zealand community and Association members.
And In order to achieve our Mission, BCA will:
- Facilitate best practice industry standards amongst members
- Lobby government for a better regulatory environment for the industry
- Promote road passenger transport
- Provide activities, information, products and services to assist members
- Grow the Association in size and quality
The Council meets regularly to set policy, make strategic decisions and oversee the financial management of the Association. Members of the BCA Council have the opportunity to directly influence the direction of the BCA, provide leadership for the industry, and promote the bus and coach sector at the highest level.
When considering a candidate for a position on Council, please think carefully about whether the individual will have the time and commitment necessary to fulfill these duties and represent the Association appropriately.
BCA 201 Annual General Meeting
Notice is hereby given that the 44th Annual General Meeting of the Bus and Coach Association will be held in the Corporate Suite 1, level 3 of the Forsyth Barr Stadium, on Tuesday 27 September, commencing at 4.00pm.
The AGM will be held during the annual conference, which is set to take place from 27-30 September at the same venue.
