Rain falling heavily South Westland, Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers - drivers take care

Slip at Cemetery Hill, Ross, now cleared from the road

NZ Transport Agency road crews are working hard to keep State Highway 6 south of Hokitika to the Glaciers open as the rain buckets down and is not anticipated to slow for 24 hours.

A slip at Fox Hills/ Omoeroa, between the two glaciers, closed one lane of the road this morning but the road is still open.

The State Highway is open but drivers are advised to anticipate delays and take extreme care, said NZ Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright. There is no widespread flooding at this time.
